I made it to the The Badlands and had a nice camp spot in the desert.  While it was hot and windy, I did have the grasshoppers to keep me company.

The carnage from the road, when I left this was fully white.  I wish there was a way to prevent it both for their sake and mine.

The next day I headed out through the Badlands.

It’s a beautiful place in a dry desert way.

It seems at one time it had lots more water and wildlife.

About half way through the park, something happened to my air conditioning and all I got was hot air.  I think it may have been a conspiracy with Wall Drug, since just as I was sweating away countless signs for free ice water and cold ice cream kept appearing.

Sure enough I pulled in and they made good on the promise.  An entrepreneur, watching all the cars drive by on the new highway and seeing none of them stop had this idea to give out free ice water.  Well they started to stop and soon the small Wall Drug store turned into a mall complete with leather stores, restaurant, and just about anything one could want.

The ice cream was okay.
